Chemical castration law comes into effect in Poland

New changes to the criminal law came into effect on Wednesday. The most significant change is a law which will permit the chemical castration of those convicted of crimes related to the rape of children and immediate family members.

The controversial legislation was passed last September after being proposed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

On release, criminals will be forced to take drugs to reduce their sex drive, but psychiatric advice will be considered before administration. (RG)
